Welcome to Grand Isle Consolidated Water District, Grand Isle, VT
For Water Emergencies, call (802) 221 – 3601
Grand Isle Consolidated Water District was established in 1995. GICWD’s water treatment plant is located near the ferry on The Ed Weed Fish Hatchery Property. The system draws water from Lake Champlain through two water intakes; the primary intake being at 140 feet deep and the other is at 35-40 feet deep. The water is pumped to the water plant which consists of six Kinetico filters and two Granular Activated Carbon filters. After filtration and disinfection, the water is pumped up to a 300,000 gallon storage tank on Bell Hill. From there, the water is gravity fed through the 26 miles of distribution piping to feed 750 connections. There is a secondary, 140,000 gallon storage tank on Lovers Lane that helps supply water to the Northern connections. GICWD supplies connections as far south as Eagle camp in South Hero, to as far north as the drawbridge. Click to see a map of the District.
GICWD’s governing body is a board of seven volunteer Water Commissioners that meet the third Wednesday of each month with the operators to discuss issues and make decisions to ensure the continued distribution of safe water for its members. The hybrid meetings are open and members are encouraged to attend. We suggest that members with specific concerns or questions contact us at least a week before the meeting so we can research and understand your concerns and be able to discuss them and work with you at the meeting. The agenda for each meeting will be posted on bulletin boards at the Town Offices, the post office and Emmon’s Market, on this website and on Front Porch Forum 48 hours in advance of each meeting date. See the next meeting’s agenda below.
